Randy was born and raised in Montgomery. He graduated with honors from the University of Georgia. While at Georgia, Randy played football for Vince Dooley's Bulldogs. After graduating from Georgia, he attended Cumberland School of Law (Samford University) and received his law degree in 1983.

Randy had the privilege to serve as a law clerk to the late Montgomery County Circuit Judge Joseph Phelps. Following this clerkship, Randy served as an Alabama Assistant Attorney General. He then became a prosecutor in the Montgomery County District Attorney's office and successfully prosecuted numerous high profile criminal cases.

In 1987, Randy was hired by a prominent Montgomery law firm and became a named partner with the firm in 1990. In 1992, Randy opened his own law practice. He has successfully represented hundreds of individuals and businesses. Additionally, since 2003, Randy has devoted his law practice to that of serving as a mediator for other lawyers and litigants to help resolve legal disputes. He has successfully resolved over ninety-five percent of the cases that he has been asked to mediate.

Randy has served on the Board of Directors for several organizations including the YMCA of Montgomery and Goodwill Industries of Montgomery. He has also served on the Board for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Montgomery and was a past President of that organization. He served on the Personnel Board for the City of Montgomery and Montgomery County for two years. He taught Trial Advocacy at Jones School of Law for several years. Randy was extremely involved with the youth of Montgomery through sports, and he has enjoyed coaching hundreds of children over the years in baseball, football, basketball and soccer.

In 2019, Randy and his wife Edith moved to Birmingham to be closer to their children Lauren and Will, as well as their grandchildren Allie and John.
